Compton Motorcycle Icon Harley Drew Celebrates Legacy of Black Riders

Compton, CA–Motorcycle designer Andrew Harley-Drew Thompson recently paid homage to the trailblazers of Black Harley culture who have significantly impacted motorcycle history. In a celebration of freedom, resilience, and cultural unity, the Black motorcycle community continue to honor their rich history and inspiring legacy.

Two weeks ago, the vibrant and close-knit community of the Southern California Black biker community led by Harley-Drew, gathered in Compton, to celebrate the rich legacy and continuing influence of Black motorcycle culture in Los Angeles County.

The event, which began with a spirited group ride from the Compton Footlocker, culminated in a special ceremony at the home of Mr. Chop, a revered figure in the L.A black bike scene.

Harley Drew, the grandson of Black biker legend PeeWee, is an icon in the biker community and is keeping the traditions handed down by his grandfather alive.

The bike show was designed to shine a spotlight on iconic figures like Ben Hardy, Tobie Livingston, Mr. Chop, and Pee Wee.

These pioneers not only shattered racial barriers but also united Harley riders across the nation, leaving a lasting imprint on the local community. Their stories are powerful narratives of creativity, strength, and unyielding spirit, that continue to inspire new generations of riders.

Harley-Drew took the opportunity to honor Mr. Chop, a good friend of his grandfather, for his years of dedicated service and profound impact on LA’s black motorcycle culture. His contributions have been instrumental in shaping the community and fostering a sense of unity and pride among its members.

The award presentation was a testament to his unwavering commitment and the deep respect he commands within the biker community.

In addition to Mr. Chop, Harley-Drew also celebrated Ms. Showtime during a unique bike and fashion show.

Hosted by the charismatic Harley Drew, the event saw an impressive turnout, reflecting the strong bonds and vibrant spirit of the community. Participants showcased their creativity and style, being judged not only on the customization of their motorcycles but also on how well their outfits complemented their bikes.

This celebration highlighted the distinctive blend of fashion and bike customization that characterizes the L.A bike scene, where looking fresh and matching your bike is an integral part of the culture.
