THE RECORD MATTERS

Places change.
History stays.

A closing is part of a neighborhood’s story. We preserve former locations, document moves and distinguish a closed storefront from a business that continues online, through catering or at a new address.

HOW THIS DIRECTORY WORKS

Built with care. Open to updates.

Our launch collection begins with the community-created “Support LA’s Black-Owned Restaurants” list. We cross-check selected entries against business websites, owner statements and dated local reporting before publishing a profile. The original list’s pandemic-era labels are not treated as current status.

Profiles identify the sources used and when they were checked. Confirmed closures are retained as historical records; uncertain closing dates are not invented. This is a growing guide, not a complete list of every Black-owned business in Los Angeles.
