Michelle Chambers: A New Era of Leadership for Senate District 35

Los Angeles, CA—The upcoming race for Senate District 35 is pivotal, with key areas of South LA County—including Carson, Compton, Inglewood, Hawthorne, Westmont, Long Beach, and Gardena—set to shape the future of leadership in the region. Michelle Chambers, a community justice advocate and former Compton City Councilmember, is vying to replace outgoing Senator Steven Bradford.

The race has taken an ugly turn, with Richardson’s supporters reviving a 31-year-old incident from Chambers’ youth, in which she was accused of assaulting a pregnant woman. However, the woman involved has since expressed her full support for Chambers, taking responsibility for the events and affirming their friendship today. Still, Richardson’s camp continues to weaponize the incident in an attempt to undermine Chambers’ candidacy.

Chambers, the sister of the late actor Michael K. Williams, brings a strong background in public service and grassroots advocacy to the table. She has earned endorsements from labor unions, community organizations, and prominent Black leaders, including Senator Bradford, Assemblymember Tina McKinnor, Supervisor Holly Mitchell, and Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove.

Her opponent, Laura Richardson, is a former Congressmember seeking a return to politics after being ousted from office following a scandal-ridden tenure, during which she was named the “Most Corrupt” in Congress. Richardson’s campaign has drawn support from an independent expenditure funded by Big Oil, Big Tobacco, and wealthy Trump donors. Despite these financial backers, her top endorsers include high-profile figures such as Congresswoman Maxine Waters and LA Mayor Karen Bass.

Michelle Chambers represents a path forward rooted in accountability, community, and progress, with endorsements that reflect the trust she has earned from local leaders who understand the district’s needs.
