Rialto School District Releases Statement After Black Student Assaulted at Jehue Middle School

COLTON. CA—A shocking video of a Black female student being slammed onto a desk and knocked unconscious by a male classmate at Jehue Middle school, has sparked widespread outrage online, with many criticizing the lack of intervention from teachers present in the classroom.
The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows no teacher or staff members stepping in during the assault, fueling anger among parents, community members, and activists who are demanding accountability from the Rialto Unified School District.
In response to the growing backlash, the Rialto Unified School District released a statement acknowledging the incident and citing an investigation.

“The Rialto Unified School District is aware of the disturbing incident that occurred earlier this week in a classroom where two students were involved in a physical fight and racial slurs were shouted by various students.
The District acted promptly and contacted the parents of the students involved, and medical aid was also provided. This disturbing and unfortunate incident is under investigation by the District and local authorities. The District does not condone the violent actions of the students and does not tolerate hate speech on any of its campuses.
Each school year, District students attend presentations and are provided materials on kindness and the District’s policies prohibiting discrimination and hate speech. Corrective measures have been implemented. This incident in one classroom does not define the great student-centered accomplishments of the school, the students or the staff.
The District thanks the parents and education community for their patience and support as the investigation continues and a plan of action is developed.”
