Monterey Park, CA–Huu Can Tran has been identified as the suspect in the Monterey Park shooting that claimed the lives of 10 people and wounding several others.

Authorities say Tran died following a self-inflicted gunshot wound as swat barricaded and surrounded Han’s white van in Torrance, which had been identified in the shooting.

The shooting occurred near a popular Lunar New Year Festival in a city with a large Asian-American population. However, the exact location of the shooting occurred at  Star Ballroom Dance Studio in a strip mall close by.

Witnesses say Han was looking for his wife inside the dance studio, where he was also a frequent visitor. After opening fire on those inside the building, he also shot those who were wounded twice.

As it remains unclear what motivated the shooting and a search warrant has been issued for Tran’s home, the sheriff said it’s too early to say whether it could have been a hate crime and Investigators are still working to determine whether any of the victims were known to the gunman (CNN).

Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna along with the Monterey Police Department held several press conferences relating to the shooting today.
