Compton, CA— Vernell McDaniel is currently running for election as Compton City Clerk, a role she has held since 2023, after being voted in by the City Council. In the fast-paced world of municipal governance, Compton City Clerk Vernell McDaniel showcases an impressive array of accomplishments that resonate with the community. Prior to her current role, she served the City of Compton as its Chief Deputy City Clerk.  

From resolutions to public records requests, McDaniel’s first year in office has been defined by efficiency, dedication, and a commitment to public service. During her first year, McDaniel spearheaded the attestation, execution, and signing of 199 resolutions and 23 ordinances, solidifying her role as a decisive force in shaping the city’s legislative landscape. 

Her duties also oversaw the execution of 156 contracts, demonstrating her adeptness in managing critical agreements that contribute to the city’s development and prosperity. Within the last year, McDaniel helped to process and complete 1,053 public records requests, with 73 currently pending, reflecting her dedication to open governance.

McDaniel played a pivotal role in the preparation and posting of 51 City Council agendas and action sheets, while actively participating in 50 City Council meetings as the Clerk of the Legislative body. Her contributions extended to overseeing 7 Successor Agency Meetings and preparing corresponding agendas.

The exceptional responsiveness of the Compton City Clerk’s office under McDaniel’s tenure is highlighted by the handling of over 20,000 phone calls, reinforcing her accessibility to the needs of Compton residents.

McDaniel also utilized her time to invest in her professional growth by attending 8 certified training sessions and a key conference hosted by the California Clerks Association. Her connection to Compton goes beyond her role as City Clerk. Her three adult children attended Compton Unified Schools and started their professional journeys by being employed by the City of Compton before embarking on their military careers.

In a remarkable personal milestone, McDaniel purchased her first home in the City of Compton at the age of 19.
