3D Beauty By Devan: Visit This Navy Veteran For Your Hair & Makeup in L.A

Devan Tisdale is the owner of 3D Beauty By Devan LLC, a business she started in 2021 while still in Cosmetology school. 3D Beauty By Devan is located inside Be Brave Beauty Supply in Hawthorne, California.

3D Beauty offers healthy hair services including natural hair styling, silk presses, color and strengthen treatments.

What inspired you to go into the hair business? What inspired you to become an entrepreneur in general?

Devan: “I always had a love for hair. Since I was a kid and played with my dolls. I was always the family hairdresser. I used to braid hair as a teenager. Even in the military, the women would come to my room for me to do their hair. I was actually always interested in being a entrepreneur but had no idea how to start. I had a mentor in cosmetology school who pointed me in the right direction to start my LLC.”

How has business been for you as a business owner?

Devan: “Business has been an eye opener. It’s been lots of highs and lows. But it’s always been keep going. I have to keep going.”

What would you say is special about your beauty shop?

Devan: “I give everyone a consultation. A chance to tell me what their goals are, what challenges they are having and how we can help their hair improve.” 

What are some of your most popular services? 

Devan: “My most popular services are my silk presses, and curly hairstyles.” 

What would you like people to know about you personally as a business owner?

Devan: “I am a US Navy Veteran. I started out in the medical field, and eventually followed my dream of doing hair. It’s never too late to pursue your dreams.”

What do you think women enjoy most about getting their hair done?

Devan: “The before and after. It’s something about coming in looking one way but walking out feeling like a million bucks! “

Why is getting your hair done important self care especially for Black women? 

Devan: “It’s important because as black women our hair is an extension of ourselves. It is the first thing people notice about you when they see you, so as Black women we always want our hair to be laid. When you look good you feel even better!”

What do you enjoy most about being a beautician?

Devon: “Making women feel special!!! I love the reactions!”
