Brotherhood Crusade Hosts 57th Gala Honoring CSU President Dr. Parham

Beverly Hills, CA–The Brotherhood Crusade hosted its 57th Annual Pioneer of African American Achievement Award Gala Dec. 5th in Beverly Hills, honoring Dr. Thomas A. Parham, president of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). The gala is one of the city’s most significant events celebrating Black excellence, leadership, and community impact. It brings together civic leaders, educators, business partners, and supporters to recognize individuals who have made transformative contributions to Los Angeles and beyond.

This year’s honoree, Dr. Thomas A. Parham, is widely respected for his decades of work in higher education, multicultural psychology, and student advocacy. Since becoming the 11th president of CSUDH in 2018, Dr. Parham has expanded academic programs, secured major institutional investments, strengthened community partnerships, and championed initiatives that support Black and underrepresented students. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to educational equity and aligns directly with the Brotherhood Crusade’s mission of uplifting underserved communities throughout Los Angeles.

For more than five decades, the Brotherhood Crusade has remained one of the most influential nonprofit organizations in South Los Angeles. Founded in 1968, the organization provides critical services including youth development, college readiness programs, mental health support, economic empowerment resources, and health and wellness initiatives. The annual Pioneer of African American Achievement Award Gala serves as its primary fundraising event, generating vital support for programs that impact thousands of young people and families each year.

The evening honoring Dr. Parham highlighted the powerful intersection of education, equity, and community service. Guests celebrated his life’s work, including his contributions as a licensed psychologist, author, and national expert on identity development. The gala underscored how his leadership at CSUDH has shaped opportunities for students who have historically been marginalized or overlooked within higher education systems.
