Soul Stage LA Hosts High-Energy DJ and Dance Competition With $2,000 in Cash Prizes

  • PublishedApril 30, 2026

LOS ANGELES — From dancers commanding the stage to DJs moving packed crowds in real time, Soul Stage LA once again transformed Los Angeles nightlife into a live, audience-powered celebration of emerging talent. A packed room, an open bar, and a crowd ready to decide who takes it all—Soul Stage LA delivered a high-energy night centered on one thing: putting local talent front and center.

The event, which featured a DJ and dance competition with $2,000 in cash prizes, brought together local creatives, supporters, and performers for a night centered on artistry, performance, and community. With high energy throughout the venue, and audience participation determining the winners, the night reflected Soul Stage LA’s growing reputation as a platform where artists can showcase the full depth of their abilities.

Unlike traditional showcases, Soul Stage LA flips the power dynamic. There are no industry gatekeepers or closed-door decisions. Instead, the audience determines who rises, creating an environment that feels both competitive and deeply community-driven.

Among the night’s three winners was Taji Dio, whose set earned both crowd support and top honors during the competition. In an interview following the event, Taji Dio spoke to The Voice of Black Los Angeles about what made the experience meaningful—not just personally, but for artists navigating an industry where creative range often goes unseen.

“I feel like a lot of artists could probably relate to the fact that what we present to be consumed is not indicative of our talents,” Taji Dio said.

Originally from Prince George’s County, Maryland, Taji Dio described his relationship with music as something that developed early, even without a musical family background. He began writing lyrics and rapping around age 10, building a deep appreciation for music through curiosity and analysis.

“There’s very few places where we can go and display our technical ability and our range and everything that we’re capable of doing—and not only display it, but have it appreciated and celebrated.”

The Dance winners were the duo Loved Onez, comprised of choreographer Codi Gentle and dance artist Arielle Rhenae, both of whom energized the crowd with standout performances that reflected the diversity of talent present throughout the competition. Each winner walked away with a cash prize, but more importantly, with increased visibility in a city where opportunities for emerging artists can be limited.
